a variety of time consuming chews
(Yak cheese, antlers, Pork Chomps, cheek rolls, beef tracheas,
collagen chews, basted beef bones*, cow hooves, bully sticks)
*Avoid pork bones, they are more likely to splinter.
Any hard chews can cause adult teeth to crack and break, that being said I still feed all of these to my dogs and I have never had it happen to any of my dogs in 30 years of owning pets, but saw it all the time in vet clinics. Puppies are less likely to have a problem because their jaw strength isn't there yet, and actually hard chews help them to lose their loose baby teeth. Cheek rolls, Pork Chomps, beef tracheas, collagen chews and bully sticks are soft enough they do not cause teeth to break, but they also do not last as long. Puppies can also have rawhide/beefhide but adults can not as the pieces adults tear off can cause a blockage and require surgery. (If your puppy starts tearing pieces off take it away from them!) Supposedly cheek rolls are fluffier and this doesn't happen (but they are relatively new so maybe I just haven't heard any vet stories about them yet.)
